Jean Muller, New Label Signature and New Album Release

Pianist Jean Muller has signed with German label hänssler classic. Their first project together, Johann Sebastian Bach Goldberg Variations, has been released the 15th of September.

About Goldberg Variations Jean Muller says: 'Bach’s Goldberg Variations are one of the most paramount masterpieces ever written for the keyboard. They have never failed to be an inspiration for performers and the audience. Glenn Gould’s iconoclastic version made further interpretations increasingly difficult, so that we are nowadays often faced with interpretations that try to enlighten other aspects of the score: for instance, to use it as an inspiration for new music, or to freshen the music up by a new instrumentation. My approach is radically different: my focus is neither based on historical interpretation dogmas, or on an intellectual, analytical deconstructivism. Instead I try to go back to Bach’s very own curiosity for everything musical and any advance in instrumental progress that makes music making even better. To this end, I use not only a Steinway D piano, but also a 22-piece set developed by Instrumagic specifically for the Steinway D, which gives the sound of the piano an unprecedented dynamic range, transparency and sonic clarity.'

After performing the Goldberg Variations at the Moselmusikfestival (DE), Muller will perform Bach’s masterpiece at the Piano Salon Christophori in Berlin on the 15th of October.
