Grammy winners Angélique Kidjo and Gast Waltzing!
Yesterday evening, for the first time a Luxembourgish production featuring the Beninese-born singer Angélique Kidjo, conductor Gast Waltzing and the Orchestre Philharmonique du Luxembourg received the Grammy for best World Music Album.
This unique project is merging African rhythms with classical arrangements. This album was fully created in Luxembourg with Gast Waltzing coming up with the concept and conducting the OPL during the recording sessions. Most of the arrangements have also hailed from Gast himself and some from David Laborier.
Here are a few words uttered by Angélique Kidjo and Gast Waltzing:
"I want to thank the Luxembourg Philharmonique Orchestra and his conductor/arranger, Gast Waltzing, he had a vision that African music can meet classical music. This is what music is about: to bring doors walls and bridges down"
"Allow me just to say: we did this all in Luxembourg ... Thank you the Orchestra from Luxembourg and thank you the Philharmonie."
This marks a historical landmark for Luxembourg!
The whole music :LX team would like to congratulate Gast, Angélique and the OPL!
