: Sascha Ley & Laurent Payfert

With an extraordinary musical complicity, the Luxembourgish all-round artist Sascha Ley (vocals) and the French musician Laurent Payfert (double-bass) share an adventurous and effortless dialogue that fascinates by its immediate creativity. Inspired by the boundless world of sound, their music - delicate and minimalist, rhythmical and strong - sounds out the possibilities of both their instruments and compositions, wandering along the crossroads of modern jazz, improvisation and instant composition.
After three years of concerts, the duo recorded and released the album "The Wee Hours" in 2015, being very happy about the cheerful reception of their concerts by both the audience and the press.
“An amazing concert. Experimentation. We are in an urban jungle. We are in a bar. We are on the roof of a building in London. We are on a street, and the music is with us. As long as there are voices like Sascha’s and instruments such as Laurent's, everything will be fine.” Paulo Lobo, 03/2013
SASCHA LEY likes walking along unconventional paths in her musical output, which is strongly oriented towards jazz, free improvisation, imaginary folklore and contemporary music. The German-Luxembourgish vocalist and actress has studied in Saarbrücken, Amsterdam and Bombay. In parallel with music, drama and film works, Sascha has devoted herself in recent years increasingly to composing and writing, creating and directing interdisciplinary performances.
LAURENT PAYFERT, French double bass player and composer, has been trained in classical music at the Conservatoire de Metz (FR). Playing as a bassist in rock and funk bands, he gets into jazz and improvised music by the end of the 80's, stylistically influenced by encounters with H. Van De Geyn, Ricardo Del Fra and Steve Laca... Besides the duo and his "Laurent Payfert Quartet", he performs as a sideman and collaborates with stage artists and sculptors.
Has played:
Copenhagen Jazz Festival (DK), Francophonie Festival, Washington DC (US), B-Flat Berlin, Saarbrücken (DE), Longwy, Arlon (BE)...
Press:
"CD tip of the month June 2015! An exciting journey through jazz, instant composing and improvisation. Being only two, the duo explores the sonic possibilities of voice and bass, often onomatopoeic, with few but powerful lyrics. A kind of musical theater, that goes without pictures, but all the more creates impressive atmospheres." Melodiva (DE)
"Atmospheric density and fearless tracks. A challenge to the jazz. A toxic, shattered and battered masterpiece." Mike Dostert, Luxemburger Wort (LU)
"A royal voice. The album reveals both a bold and adventurous jazz. Sascha 's voice and Laurent’s double bass interact and infiltrate each other until they remove all locks and enter the world of sound on rarely explored paths." Annie Gaspard, Le Jeudi (L)
