: BIOGRAPHY
New Orleans native Greg Lamy lives between Luxembourg and Paris. After studying Jazz guitar in Boston at the Berklee College of Music as well as in London at the Trinity College, he was rapidly noticed when showcasing in clubs and quickly toured across Europe or in New York. Lamy often finds himself invited to perform in various bands. He played and plays, among others, with Lionel Loueke, Gretchen Parlato, Massimo Biolcati, Ferenc Nemeth and Marco Massa.
In 2007, Lamy created his own quartet. Simultaneously, he plays, since 2006, in a Jazz guitar duo with Quentin Liégois. In 2016, Greg Lamy won the Export Artist of the Year Award (music:LX) in the Jazz category.
Greg Lamy Quartet
Founded in 2003, the Greg Lamy Quartet is, since 2007, composed of guitarist Greg Lamy, saxophonist Johannes Müller, drummer Jean-Marc Robin and double bassist Gautier Laurent. They have released four albums, What are you afraid of? (2006), I see you (2009), Meeting (2013) and Press Enter (2017), signed with the Belgian label Igloo Records.
Characterised by an alchemical osmosis, the Greg Lamy Quartet is an accomplished ensemble, inspiring and ambitious, harmonious and pluralistic and always driven by the pleasure of playing together, thus creating a unique jazz atmosphere. For the quartet, a tour follows hot on the heels of another. Europe, United States, Brazil – they keep being successful in Luxembourg as well as abroad.
In October 2017, the Greg Lamy Quartet has released its new opus: Press Enter. More than just an album marked by modernity – as the titles "Control Swift", "Erase", "Exit" and "Press Enter" suggest –, its nine original compositions (plus a bonus track) are first and foremost an invitation to a journey. The album thus seduces with a broad range of sensations, both impressionist and figurative, melancholic and energetic… Lamy’s abundant inspiration is more than ever revealed by a decade-long musical complicity with his fellow musicians.
Greg Lamy and Quentin Liégois
Greg Lamy and Quentin Liégeois met in Brussels a few years ago and work together since 2006. The two guitarists, besides building up their solo career, share the joy of playing in duo and the search of surprising on scene. In order to fall in step, the two musicians have conceived their own repertoire which includes the rearranged adaptation of popular pieces such as Stevie Wonder 'Isn’t she lovely' or famous jazz standards like 'All the things you are' by Jerome Kern. They also perform their own compositions like 'Le Chien' and 'Blues for Jean'.
Besides their perfect technique, these two guys are in perfect harmony. Their sensibilities arrive to join and they share humour as well as good notes which provide this subtle touch to their arrangements. It’s an exchange, based on the personal musical universe of each of the two guitarists: they will now meet their audience as a duo. Greg Lamy first started this project with Paulo Simoes with whom he released an album in 2011 including their new compositions. A second album Two Guitars, with Ernie Hammes (trumpet), Jérôme Goldschmidt (percussion) and Gautier Laurent (double bass) as guest musicians, was released in 2015.
