: BIOGRAPHY
Edson Pires Domingos (born April 18, 1990) known by his artist name EDSUN, is a singer, songwriter and dancer from Luxembourg. He has developed an alternative R&B style, full of dark and captivating rhythms. In November 2015, EDSUN released his first EP, N.O., whose first released single is "No Compliments". This EP is available on iTunes, Amazon and Spotify.
Growing up in a house where music was always present, EDSUN was introduced to the world of show from an early age. Indeed, his parents, who owned a pub, had him already dancing on the tables when he was only one year old. He grew up listening to artists like Michael Jackson, as well as traditional Cape Verde music and the pop-rock and hip-hop/rnb wave of the 90s. He kept singing and dancing in the house. It is therefore not surprising that he participated in every young talent contest organized by his school or his city. He was also able to demonstrate his talent as a dancer on stage during the elections of "Miss Cape Verde" in Luxembourg in 2001.
In high school, he started taking hip hop classes which became a real refuge for him, finally allowing him to regain his place in the world. EDSUN has always been perceived as different. The dance helped him to feel more confident and comfortable in his body and to have a sense of belonging. This led him to an audition for dance classes at the Luxembourg Music Conservatory. After being admitted, his life took a turn: he got to know a new world in which he felt he could express himself better. Once his courses at the conservatory ended, he felt that the music was missing and so decided to buy a Macbook Pro. That's when everything changed.
He began to create music, to explore his writing and his melodies from the depths of his room. At that time, he also began participating in open mic sessions and presenting his art on stage. In the meantime he met producer Emerine Samuel, who studied Music Technology in London. Together, they began to work on concreting music and to experiment the world of EDSUN a little deeper. Emerine's studio, located at his home in London, was the ideal place to develop their ideas. The decision to put a few songs online in 2013 and 2014 allowed the music of EDSUN to be presented and to find a beginning of existence from which the artist could grow and evolve. Working in London gave him the confidence to invest more. After another year of production, writing and learning, EDSUN was ready to release his first EP, expressing its many emotions through his powerful lyrics, captivating electronic sounds and the energy of guitar.
At the same time, he developed unique and authentic dance movements, enabling him to expand his energy and emotions. He describes his dance style as contemporary, using all the techniques and elements he has internalized through hip hop, jazz or ballet.
In November 2015, EDSUN presents his first EP called N.O. at the Kulturfabrik in Esch-Alzette. He said that he has been blessed on the Luxembourg music scene ever since. In February 2016, he performed at the Rotondes for a self-organized concert and in August 2016, he performed at the Rotondes (Grande salle) for the "Congés Annulés 2016". In November of the same year, he played at the "Sonic Visions" at the Rockhal. His performance was critically acclaimed for the innovation he brings to the music scene of the country: "[...] in revelation of the evening, the dark and electro R'n'B of EDSUN. The luxembourgish singer and dancer impressed with his demanding and ambitious univers.” (l’essentiel, november 2016).
In 2017 EDSUN started to professionalise himself in the field of art and music. After winning the grant FOCUNA from the Luxembourgish government in order to develop his artist career, he released ‘Apologee’, worked on his live shows and started to conceptualise his upcoming EP.
EDSUN performed at Reeperbahn Festival in Hamburg and headlined Luxembourgish Festival Food Food For Your Senses. He also a VR experience on the importance of Platonic Touch for which he collaborated with Sonic Invasion and Real Lab at the Sonic Visions Festival in Luxembourg. The Platonic Touch experience later became the main concept of his upcoming tour in 2018.
In 2018, EDSUN performed at numerous events and festivals and also launched a Kickstarter campaign in order to fund his first European tour called ‘The Platonic Touch Tour’. He managed to raise and reach the goal, which was used to fund the creation of his EP and tour.
In November 2018, EDSUN released his second EP You Are Not Just One Thing, distancing himself from his dark and moody sound of his debut EP in favour of a more up beat Pop and R&B style. The EP was released during the Platonic Touch Tour.
For his upcoming projects, EDSUN will tackle other European territories i.e. Belgium, Germany, England and France.
