Luxembourg-born bandleader, composer and vibraphonist Pascal Schumacher currently has two projects in full swing. The first project simply known as “Solo+”, where Schumacher strips his performances down to the bare bones, playing a solo programme on the vibraphone. No additional accompaniment or musical flourishes. Only the vibraphone. The result is an intimate sonic experience and blend of tasteful melodies.
The second project however, finds Schumacher in good company, with Erik Sundquist and Nicolas Dautricourt, accompanying him as all three musicians revisit George Gershwin’s composition “Porgy and Bess”. The piece is known for it’s ambiguous disposition; existing between the worlds of classical and jazz, but not quite living in either of them.
