Alena Baeva releases new album “Mendelssohn, Schumann: Violin Concertos”

Alena Baeva recently released a brand new album on the Russian label Melodiya Records, featuring works by Mendelssohn and Schumann.

This new release was recorded with the PERSIMFANS orchestra, a Moscow-based conductorless orchestra. As a matter of fact, this unique ensemble was born from an experiment of the Soviet avant-garde movement, embracing the ideals of artistic freedom and equality, giving every musician the same responsibility in the collective. In 2008, PERSIMFANS was revived by the initiative of Peter Aidu.

The album includes two essential works for violin from the Romantic era, it features Mendelssohn’s “Violin Concerto in E minor” - the original 1844 version - and Schumann’s “Violin Concerto in D minor”, his one and only concert for violin and last work for orchestra which was unfortunately never heard by Schumann, as it was played for the first time more than 80 years after his death.

Save the date, Alena will perform with pianist Vadym Kholodenko for the first time since the covid-19 outbreak at the Luxembourg Philharmonie on July 2nd! On the program: Franz Schubert and Ludwig van Beethoven. Don’t forget to book your ticket here and enjoy the show!
